Some reading notes on "Space"

Henri Lefebrve and Pierre Bourdieu, wrote about the role of space in shaping society and culture. Most notable are their argument that space shoud be viewed as an active froce in constructing social identity, rather than as a passive backdrop against which social interactions were played out.(Bourdieu, Outline of a Theory of Practice; de Certeau, The practice of Everyday Life; Lefebrve, The production of Space) Bourdieu's concept of "habitus" highlights how certain places became 'labelled' and ultimately understood according specific social, cultural and political trends(Bourdieu, Theory of Practice, p.72).
